The KB90 has landed in the US!

To celebrate our milestone years, starting with 1998, La Marzocco has created a new body style to re-imagine the most popular model of the time. For our 70th anniversary we developed the FB70 on the Linea Classic model. For the 80th, it was the FB80 that transformed the GB5. For our 90th anniversary we couldn’t be more excited to share the KB90, a re-design of the Linea PB.

In the past, these special edition machines have been mainly cosmetic changes. But for our 90th anniversary, the R&D team at La Marzocco developed several new innovative features that increase efficiency and the ease of use for the barista. The addition of these features combined with the consistency and reliability of the Linea PB make it the ultimate workflow machine for busy cafes.

The KB90 is named for our Board Chairman, Kent Bakke. Kent pioneered one of the most exciting new features of the KB90, the Straight-in Portafilter. Kent has always seen La Marzocco’s mission to create machines that make the lives of the barista easier and more efficient and the KB90 embodies this philosophy.

Here are some details of the most exciting new features:

Straight-in Portafilter

The Straight-In Portafilter is designed to simplify the motions required to engage the portafilter and reduce the strain on the barista for even greater performance and everyday usability. High volume coffee environments demand that a barista work fast and efficiently to produce drinks during busiest periods of the day. The Straight-In Portafilter can noticeably mitigate the repetitive stress injuries occurring through its ease of action improving the natural workflow and output of barista. It has been proven in a study conducted by Faentia Consulting S.r.l. that the Straight-In Portafilter System can reduce strain on the barista by 12 times.

Steam Flush

The Steam Flush automatically cleans the shower screen with a burst of steam and a flush of hot water through the grouphead after each extraction. Thanks to the use of hot steam the shower screen remains clean longer, compared to the use of hot water only. Steam Flush helps high volume cafes keep the machine clean with the goal of reducing the number of times the barista needs to back flush during service.

Easy Rebuild Steam Wand

The KB90 is equipped with a new steam valve, accessible directly from the steam knob. In case of regular, preventive or extraordinary maintenance, this feature minimizes machine downtimes.

KB90 will also feature individual boilers, Pro Touch steam wands, and Drip Prediction enabled scales. We can’t wait for you to try out the machine.

KB90 Launch Events

See you at the New York Coffee Festival

La Marzocco is excited to participate in the second edition of the New York Coffee Festival. September 16-18, we will be on site at the 69th Regiment Armory for a weekend of espresso and coffee celebration.

The New York Coffee Festival is an exciting event, as it is consumer facing, giving ourselves and our partners the opportunity to spread the good word of specialty coffee to the masses. This year, we’ll be doing this in two ways; the La Marzocco Home DIY Experience Bar and the True Artisan Cafe.

DIY Experience Bar

For those curious to learn more about the craft of making espresso, La Marzocco Home is running a hands-on Experience Bar, giving attendees the opportunity to learn the steps to making espresso on a La Marzocco GS3 and Linea Mini. For many, this is the first opportunity to get hands-on with an extraction method that is usually experienced from the other side of a counter in a cafe or coffee shop.

The La Marzocco Home Experience Bar will feature four home espresso machines—two Linea Minis and two GS3s, and will feature coffees from Counter Culture Coffee, Toby’s Estate, Gregory’s Coffee, Joe NYC, and Blue Stone Lane throughout the weekend.

The True Artisan Cafe

La Marzocco machines are nothing without great roasted coffee. Throughout the weekend, stop by and try espresso drinks made by some of the best coffee roasters New York has to offer.

Our roasting partners will be sharing delicious blends, single origin coffee, and creative espresso drinks. See the schedule at the end of this post to know when to stop by for your favorites.

Strada AV

The True Artisan Cafe will feature the newly released, newly available Strada AV. This machine features the forward-thinking La Marzocco electronics platform, giving baristas easy-to-navigate, precision control of the volume of water to flow through an extraction.

The Strada AV is also the first espresso machine to feature our all-new Pro Touch steam wand. This new steam wand stays cools to the touch, without compromising steam quality or volume.

No matter how big the crowds get at the New York Coffee Festival, the Strada AV will be the machine to help our baristas make consistent, delicious drinks with ease.

New York Coffee Festival

In less than two weeks our team will be heading to New York City to participate in the inaugural New York Coffee Festival. September 25, 26, and 27 a collection of some of the finest coffee companies from around New York, the greater northeast region, and even from Europe will be assembling to celebrate all things specialty coffee at the 69th Regiment Armory.

The New York Coffee Festival is produced by Allegra Events, the same group that developed and launched the London Coffee Festival and the Amsterdam Coffee Festival. Both of these events have had great success in Europe and we’re very excited to welcome this style of event to the US. Friday September 25th is geared toward trade attendees, while the 26th and 27th are open to the general public. Expect a fun, festival atmosphere with food, music, and, of course, coffee.

La Marzocco will be offering two unique experiences for attendees to check out.

La Marzocco Home

Have you seen the Linea Mini yet? If not, come by the La Marzocco booth for your chance to experience a kitchen-sized version of our most iconic espresso machine, the Linea Classic. Home baristas and professionals alike will have the opportunity to jump on a Linea Mini and make espresso for themselves.

If you have never made an espresso before, fear not, as our team will be there to guide you through the experience.

We’ll have a small selection of coffee tools available for purchase. La Marzocco tampers, towels, and the new Acaia Lunar Scale will be available for purchase at the event. Quantities will be limited, so make sure to stop by early.

True Artisan Cafe

To crawl your way around all of New York and try coffees from every great roaster in the area would take days. GIZMODO Reports on La Marzocco (and Coffee)

Usually known for their reporting and humor on all things tech and gadgets, Gizmodo‘s Matt Buchanan wrote a comprehensive primer on coffee and basic brewing methods. Unlike most mainstream media, however, he actually sought knowledge and advice from those in the know – Ken Nye of Ninth Street Espresso and David Latourell of Intelligentsia. Matt also interviewed Jacob Ellul-Blake, La Marzocco s.r.l.‘s R&D, on what it takes for an espresso machine to brew a good espresso shot (other than a good barista, that is).

Also featured in the article is a picture of Ninth Street Espresso’s custom Linea Paddle.
