The KB90 has landed in the US!

To celebrate our milestone years, starting with 1998, La Marzocco has created a new body style to re-imagine the most popular model of the time. For our 70th anniversary we developed the FB70 on the Linea Classic model. For the 80th, it was the FB80 that transformed the GB5. For our 90th anniversary we couldn’t be more excited to share the KB90, a re-design of the Linea PB.

In the past, these special edition machines have been mainly cosmetic changes. But for our 90th anniversary, the R&D team at La Marzocco developed several new innovative features that increase efficiency and the ease of use for the barista. The addition of these features combined with the consistency and reliability of the Linea PB make it the ultimate workflow machine for busy cafes.

The KB90 is named for our Board Chairman, Kent Bakke. Kent pioneered one of the most exciting new features of the KB90, the Straight-in Portafilter. Kent has always seen La Marzocco’s mission to create machines that make the lives of the barista easier and more efficient and the KB90 embodies this philosophy.

Here are some details of the most exciting new features:

Straight-in Portafilter

The Straight-In Portafilter is designed to simplify the motions required to engage the portafilter and reduce the strain on the barista for even greater performance and everyday usability. High volume coffee environments demand that a barista work fast and efficiently to produce drinks during busiest periods of the day. The Straight-In Portafilter can noticeably mitigate the repetitive stress injuries occurring through its ease of action improving the natural workflow and output of barista. It has been proven in a study conducted by Faentia Consulting S.r.l. that the Straight-In Portafilter System can reduce strain on the barista by 12 times.

Steam Flush

The Steam Flush automatically cleans the shower screen with a burst of steam and a flush of hot water through the grouphead after each extraction. Thanks to the use of hot steam the shower screen remains clean longer, compared to the use of hot water only. Steam Flush helps high volume cafes keep the machine clean with the goal of reducing the number of times the barista needs to back flush during service.

Easy Rebuild Steam Wand

The KB90 is equipped with a new steam valve, accessible directly from the steam knob. In case of regular, preventive or extraordinary maintenance, this feature minimizes machine downtimes.

KB90 will also feature individual boilers, Pro Touch steam wands, and Drip Prediction enabled scales. We can’t wait for you to try out the machine.

Join us in a city near you for “Pressure + Flow”

La Marzocco USA is pleased to announce the four-city event series “Pressure + Flow,” taking place in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and Chicago in February and March 2013.

Each event will feature a day of learning, with presentations and hands-on guided learning experiences on emerging coffee topics:

PRESSURE: A guided hands-on learning experience with the Strada EP. Hear about how the Strada EP came to be, what we’ve learned about brewing coffee using the Strada EP as a platform, then spend time with the machine.

FLOW: This session will give an overview of water science, the interaction of coffee and water, and leave participants with information on how to test their water and make informed water conditioning purchase decisions.

The events will also feature a fun, interactive “Espresso Machine Loveline” session hosted by a special guest in each city, with answers by Dr. Scott Guglielmino. Bring all of those questions you’ve been too embarrassed to ask; no question is off limits!

The agenda for each event is:

10:00-12:00 & 2:00-4:00: PRESSURE: Guided hands-on learning with the Strada EP (session content presented twice)

4:00-5:00: Espresso Machine Loveline

5:30-7:00: FLOW: Water science 101 with comparative espresso tasting featuring waters from around the US

Catch Pressure + Flow on these dates in these cities:

February 13th: Los Angeles, Siren Studios

February 16th: San Francisco, Guerrero Gallery

March 6th: New York, Attic Studios

March 9th: Chicago, Ravenswood Events Center

Each event is free and open to the public; registration is encouraged. Participants who register in advance will receive a special La Marzocco gift.

Killer Latte Art from Intelligentsia LA

Nicelys amazing latte art
Intelligentsia LA’s Nicely (via his flickr page) steamin some amazingly well textured latte art. It seemingly defies laws of gravity and liquid cohesion/tension.
Another amazing latte art that defies gravity (and spillage) on Nicelys flickr page. Poured by Teal Allan.
