SCA 2017

SCA weekend is just 2 weeks away, here’s what we have planned!

  • 90th Anniversary Party, Saturday 4/22, La Marzocco Cafe
  • Welcome Home – classes and presentations for the home barista, 4/20-23, La Marzocco Cafe
  • Tech Seminars, 4/21-22, La Marzocco (Ballard), RSVP now

SCA Expo, 4/21-23, WSCC, Booth 1338

We hope to see you in Seattle for SCA Expo. Visit booth 1338 to meet with your area sales director, our after-sales support team, and the rest of the La Marzocco team. On bar, you’ll see the new addition to the Strada family, Strada with Auto Brew Ratio, as well as a ‘Songwa-art’ wrapped Linea PB ABR. This year is full of celebrations, including that of our partnership (with Probat and Mahlkonig) in the Tanzania coffee farm, Songwa.

The booth will be energized with the return of the #TrueArtisan Café, showcasing a great list of our roaster partners serving up their coffees.

The La Marzocco booth will also host for the first time, La Marzocco’s sister company, Modbar, the leader in undercounter brewing equipment. La Marzocco’s Kent Bakke and Joe Monaghan were early supporters of Modbar’s innovative approach to coffee equipment, and the company has worked in collaboration with La Marzocco to elevate the craft of coffee while enabling closer connections between customers, baristas and the coffee experience. The booth will feature two brewing stations operated by guest roasters: one in a 2-group setup with two espresso taps and two steam taps; the second holding two pourover taps for filter coffee.

La Marzocco Cafe News: Announcing Year Two Roasters in Residence

The La Marzocco Cafe was built to be a place where guests from Seattle and beyond could gather to enjoy specialty coffee from roasters all over the world.

In it’s first year, the cafe has welcomed 11 roasters from 5 different countries including: Stumptown, G&B, Buna, Campos, Counter Culture, Intelligentsia, Panther, Pilot, Cat & Cloud, Heart and Tim Wendelboe.  With each roaster, the cafe’s talented team has dialed in an entirely new menu, bar flow and service style in order to effectively display each roaster’s unique approach to coffee. Launch parties and special events during each residence have included a basketball tournament, live musical performances, taco trucks, southern BBQ, a mariachi band, a latte art throwdown, a live podcast recording, home barista classes, coffee tastings, and an undisclosed amount of beer, wine and of course, coffee! We are honored to have had the level of involvement and talent that the roasters have displayed in bringing their residencies to life each month. The cafe team and guests have learned and discovered new approaches to coffee from each one and we’d like to once again extend our heartfelt thanks!

Looking ahead to year two, we are extremely excited to announce the roaster line up for the next 12 months. Receiving over 100 applications from roasters all over the world was incredibly humbling and we are extremely grateful to all who took the time to apply. Tasked with picking only 12, we based our selections on the quality of application, uniqueness of coffee program, coffee quality and diversity of residents style and location – all in an effort to showcase the breadth of specialty coffee experiences. So without further ado:

The Year Two Roasters in Residence to the La Marzocco Cafe are:

Toby’s Estate Coffee, Brooklyn, NY: 5/2/17 – 6/5/17

Madcap Coffee, Grand Rapids, MI: 6/6/17 – 7/10/17

Event details: Columbus and Detroit

blog-580

Earlier this week, we announced a new event series, which will take place in Columbus, Ohio on November 15 and in Detroit, MI on November 17.

Today, we’re excited to share a little bit more about the format for these events.

We’re also thrilled to announce that we will be partnering with our friends at Cafe Imports in both Columbus and Detroit.

We’ve put together a program that will enable people to come-and-go as they please, joining for the portions of the events that interest them the most.

Morning & Early Afternoon – before 3pm

During the day, La Marzocco Home will be offering hands-on demonstrations, open house time, and barista basics classes for people who want to learn more about how to make great espresso at home. They’ll be sharing more about their agenda and the classes offered in the coming weeks.

Sign up for Espresso Basics Class – Columbus

Afternoon (3:00-6:00)

In the mid-afternoon, we’ll get started with presentations. Presentations will begin at 3:00 and conclude at 6:00, with six speakers presenting in each city. Our earlier blog post talked a bit about the format for these presentation.

If you have an idea and would like to apply to be a presenter, please tell us more about it in this application form.

Throughout the afternoon, Cafe Imports will be providing tastings of some of their fresh crop coffees, so make sure to stop by to see what’s new from their offerings.

Evening (6:00-7:30)

As the presentations wind down, we’ll be offering bites and beer for people to enjoy as we transition to live recorded sessions of the Café Imports Opposites Extract podcast. If you’re not already familiar with it, Opposites Extract is a weekly show featuring some of the brightest lights in the specialty coffee, aimed to raise different perspectives about various topics in the industry — but without raising blood pressures. The podcast follows a debate-club style format, with sides (pro/con) assigned by random coin toss, and co-hosts Joe Marrocco and Meister from Café Imports take turns facing off against a different guest debater each week. Like all great debates, the episodes don’t end with a win or loss, but hopefully with the continuation of a fresh and open-minded conversation. You won’t want to miss this live edition.

Later (7:30-9:00)

Stick around for the closing event – a BYOV (bring your own vessel) latte art battle to close the day. If you’d like to participate, be sure to bring along a vessel into which you will pour your latte art. There is only one rule: the vessel cannot be something you would normally eat or drink out of. So, no coffee cups, cereal bowls, etc. Prizes will be awarded for the top three finishers and/or whomever brings the most creative vessel!

To summarize, the schedule for each event will be as follows:

Daytime: La Marzocco Home classes and demonstrations
3:00-6:00 PM Presentations
3:00-6:00 PM Cafe Imports Fresh Crop Tastings
6:00-6:30 PM Happy (Half) Hour, with bites & beer
6:30-7:30 PM Opposites Extract Live
7:30-9:00 PM BYOV Latte Art Battle

Make sure you register to join us; there is no cost to attend, but space is limited.

For those considering joining us from areas outside of Columbus and Detroit, we are working to set up a group rate at hotels in the area. When we have more information on lodging, we will post it here, and on the Eventbrite registration pages linked below.

See you at the New York Coffee Festival

nycf-logo

La Marzocco is excited to participate in the second edition of the New York Coffee Festival. September 16-18, we will be on site at the 69th Regiment Armory for a weekend of espresso and coffee celebration.

The New York Coffee Festival is an exciting event, as it is consumer facing, giving ourselves and our partners the opportunity to spread the good word of specialty coffee to the masses. This year, we’ll be doing this in two ways; the La Marzocco Home DIY Experience Bar and the True Artisan Cafe.

DIY Experience Bar

For those curious to learn more about the craft of making espresso, La Marzocco Home is running a hands-on Experience Bar, giving attendees the opportunity to learn the steps to making espresso on a La Marzocco GS3 and Linea Mini. For many, this is the first opportunity to get hands-on with an extraction method that is usually experienced from the other side of a counter in a cafe or coffee shop.

The La Marzocco Home Experience Bar will feature four home espresso machines—two Linea Minis and two GS3s, and will feature coffees from Counter Culture Coffee, Toby’s Estate, Gregory’s Coffee, Joe NYC, and Blue Stone Lane throughout the weekend.

The True Artisan Cafe

La Marzocco machines are nothing without great roasted coffee. Throughout the weekend, stop by and try espresso drinks made by some of the best coffee roasters New York has to offer.

Our roasting partners will be sharing delicious blends, single origin coffee, and creative espresso drinks. See the schedule at the end of this post to know when to stop by for your favorites.

Strada AV

The True Artisan Cafe will feature the newly released, newly available Strada AV. This machine features the forward-thinking La Marzocco electronics platform, giving baristas easy-to-navigate, precision control of the volume of water to flow through an extraction.

The Strada AV is also the first espresso machine to feature our all-new Pro Touch steam wand. This new steam wand stays cools to the touch, without compromising steam quality or volume.

No matter how big the crowds get at the New York Coffee Festival, the Strada AV will be the machine to help our baristas make consistent, delicious drinks with ease.

Meet the Linea Mini

BornFromAClassic

Since the launch of La Marzocco Home in November 2014, weve seen an incredible response to the idea of creating café-quality espresso drinks at home. Today, we are excited to announce the newest addition to the La Marzocco Home line up: the La Marzocco Linea Mini.

LineaMini

The design of the Linea Mini is based on the iconic La Marzocco Linea Classic. Loved by thousands of professional baristas, the Linea Classic truly helped launch the specialty coffee movement of the early 1990s, and inspire the third wave coffee movement in the early 2000s. It continues to be one of our best-selling commercial espresso machines, and is familiar to coffee professionals and coffee enthusiasts around the world. With the Linea Mini, we hope to help espresso enthusiasts create an espresso revolution in their own kitchens.

All of the details of this new addition can be found over at La Marzocco Home, where, beginning today, US customers may preorder the Linea Mini. Deliveries will begin in late spring.

The Linea Mini will be on display in the La Marzocco Home Experience at SCAA Expo in Seattle April 9 – 12. Be sure to come by and pull a shot on the newest La Marzocco espresso machine—we cant wait to share it with you!

Introducing La Marzocco Home

Home 560px

Today we are pleased to announce La Marzocco Home, a new business unit operating from the La Marzocco Seattle office, serving customers in the United States.

La Marzocco Home launches today with www.lamarzoccohome.com, a unique digital destination and online store that allows the home barista to configure his or her own La Marzocco GS3 espresso machine with specialized design features, add accessories, learn about the history of espresso, and take online courses.

Over recent years, we have observed an increase in interest and enthusiasm for the La Marzocco brand among coffee enthusiasts and people wanting to prepare great espresso at home. La Marzocco Home is meant to be a destination for these enthusiasts, where they can engage directly with La Marzocco, learn the story of the company, and delve into the world of espresso theory and technique.

We feel that La Marzocco Home will be a great resource for current owners of the La Marzocco GS3, and for those who dream of one day having one in their kitchen.

Custom options for GS3s sold through La Marzocco Home include matte black body panels, wood accents, and glass side panels. In addition to custom and standard GS3 configurations, La Marzocco Home also offers Mazzer espresso grinders, barista tools, and La Marzocco designed accessories.

Take a spin through the site, configure your ideal GS3, and let us know what you think!

Espresso: the Art of Extraction

image

At La Marzocco, we’re passionate about both the tradition of espresso, and also the evolving nature of the craft of espresso. We’re fortunate to be part of the ongoing discussion, and to help share knowledge so that the preparation of great coffee can become more accessible to all.

Nearly two years ago we partnered with a small group of award-winning chefs, filmmakers, and engineers who were building a company around their commitment to inspiring creativity and encouraging expertise in the kitchen. ChefSteps was just getting started in their kitchen down the street from our office, in Seattle’s culinary heart, the Pike Place Market. Together, we knew that we could create exceptional coffee content.

The result was released this week. It is a first-of-its-kind, comprehensive class on all things espresso. Make no mistake: nothing like it exists on the Internet, or anywhere else. Beyond tons of tips and tricks for making espresso drinks, you’ll find all the inspiration you need to prepare espresso at home, order a great drink, buy equipment and beans, or find your new favorite café.

It’s available to all – for free – here.

This project was made possible by a large team, including Los Angeles-based business owner and barista Charles Babinski, who appears in the videos alongside La Marzocco Home Senior Marketing Manager Scott Callender.

This project is part of an ongoing La Marzocco initiative to help people experience great coffee at home. In the coming weeks we’ll be sharing more about La Marzocco Home. To be among the first to be notified about La Marzocco Home, visit home.lamarzoccousa.com
