Espresso to the People – The GS/3 Experience at SCAA

This year at SCAA we want to offer guests the opportunity to not only watch coffee being made, but to learn how to craft delicious espresso beverages themselves. The GS/3 Experience, located at the Skybridge Café outside the entrance to the USBC, empowers attendees to make their own espresso drinks on La Marzocco GS/3 machines under the guidance of professional baristas.

At La Marzocco we are always looking for opportunities to educate the public about what makes specialty coffee so different and delicious. Providing a hands on coffee experience will give the public more reasons to come to the SCAA show and learn what specialty coffee is all about.

If people are going to be learning how to make espresso, we want to make sure that the experience is beautiful. So we teamed up with Jacob Ellul-Blake, founder of Pantechnicon, and former La Marzocco engineer, who has built custom machines for Stumptown and Whole Foods, to create four customized GS/3s that epitomize the style that makes the coffee making ritual so rich. Jacob explains, “The espresso machine is a focal point in the coffee experience, and it can play a big role in telling your story and the story of the coffee you serve.” New glass panels, wood portafilter handles and all black body panels are a just a few details that will help us tell the specialty coffee story at The GS/3 Experience

Come visit us and bring that friend that you’ve always wanted to share your love of coffee with and we’ll help them pour their first latte art heart.

What you’ll find at SCAA

We’re just a few days away from the opening of the Specialty Coffee Association of America’s Expo. This year, La Marzocco can be found at booth number 3031; if you’re in Seattle, we hope you’ll come visit us. Here’s just a preview of what will be happening at the booth.

38 coffee companies from across the US and beyond will be showcasing their coffee at the True Artisan Cafe. The show opens on Friday with Verve, Coda, Equator, and Josuma – but that’s just the beginning. Get ready for a weekend of seriously delicious coffee.

1 Strada EE. Our inboxes were flooded with interest after the first photos of our newest espresso machine hit the internet following the TED coffee experience in Vancouver last month. Be sure to come by to see it in person.

2 Coffee Producers. La Marzocco is honored to host Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza of Brazil and Cuatro M Coffees of El Salvador at the True Artisan Cafe. The best part of SCAA is the coming together of people who are involved in all aspects of coffee production, and we’re excited to celebrate this at the True Artisan Cafe.

3 key new features available on the Linea PB. Building on our goal of making this one of the most user-friendly espresso machines on the market, a recent software update added additional features to the Linea PB. Stop by to learn more, and learn how to easily apply this update to the Linea PB.

2 New Grinders. Between the La Marzocco Vulcano Swift and the Mazzer Kold, we’ve got something new and exciting for everyone.

45 Liters of water at exactly the right temperature for brewing coffee, dispensed through 2 fonts. This year, the Marco brew bar will be equipped with an under counter system and grinder provided by Baratza.

If you are at SCAA, we cannot wait to see you. If you can’t be in Seattle, don’t fret. You can follow all the action with #trueartisancafe.

Welcome to Seattle!

We look forward to welcoming the specialty coffee community to Seattle next week for the SCAA Expo and US Coffee Championships. Here is a sneak peek at what we have planned for the weekend – we hope you will join us!

Welcome Party

Welcome to Seattle! On Thursday April 24th, in partnership with 15 other Seattle-area coffee companies, we’re hosting a welcome bash from 8:00-12:00 at Von Trapp’s on Capitol Hill, just one mile from the convention center, following opening ceremonies for the show. Bring your SCAA badge for entrance. Stop by for food, drink, and bocce to celebrate your arrival in Seattle. More info on the event’s Facebook page.

Tradeshow Presence

Be sure to stop by our booth 3031 to see a host of roasters from around the US, as well as the newest additions to the La Marzocco USA product lineup: the La Marzocco Strada EE, the La Marzocco Vulcano Swift grinder, and the Mazzer Kold grinder. Look for details about the roasters who will be joining us for the “True Artisan Café” in a blog post next week. The tradeshow floor is open Friday and Saturday 11:00-5:30, and Sunday 11:00-4:00.

Skybridge Cafe

If you’re heading to the US Coffee Championships, be sure to visit the Skybridge Café, produced in partnership with Kalita USA, Marco, Baratza, Prima Coffee, and Global Customized Water. In addition to picking up a delicious coffee prepared by one of the roasting companies on bar, guests can receive one-on-one guidance to prepare their own espresso beverages on a fleet of customized La Marzocco GS/3 espresso machines. The Skybridge Café will be open Thursday-Saturday 8:00-5:00 and Sunday 8:00-4:00.

SCAA Lectures

Members of the La Marzocco USA team will be presenting a number of lectures at the show. Be sure to catch one or all of them:

  • Friday April 25th 9:00-10:15am, room 3A, CEO of La Marzocco International, Kent Bakke, will participate in a panel discussion on “The Evolution of Espresso Machines.”
  • Friday April 25th 10:30-11:45am, room 3A, Scott Callender, Senior Marketing Manager at La Marzocco USA will participate in a panel discussion titled “Capitalizing on Coffee at Home: Build Your Business by Supporting the Growing Interest in Specialty Coffee at Home.” Other panelists include Mark Hellweg of Clive Coffee, Nicholas Cho of Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters, and Colby Barr of Verve Coffee Roasters.
  • Saturday April 26th 9:00-10:15, room 3A, Whitney Cornell, Marketing Director at La Marzocco USA presents “When Sparks Fly! Connecting With Your Customer, From First Impression to Lasting Relationship.”

Finally, if you have a chance to get out and about in Seattle during your stay, do stop by La Marzocco USA headquarters in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. Our showroom and learning lab will be open for visitors Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00 (we will not be open on Saturday or Sunday, April 26th or 27th).

We look forward to seeing you, and to a great weekend celebrating our specialty coffee community.
