Just to get a sense of what the week-to-week is like here at La Marzocco USA, Fridays being the most special day:

We start with the Roaster’s Showcase at 10am in the LM Lab.

During this time you’ll find Andy (who works in our technical solutions department Monday-Thursday) switching gears as he fires up our smoker in his GS/3 apron. Andy’s a 1-man show when it comes to Friday BBQs. He smokes the meat, prepares and cooks all the sides, and even comes around to our offices, letting us know when lunch has been served.

It’s quite a treat; a time when the team all gets together to finish out the week, have casual conversation, and hang out.

La Marzocco opens a branch office in the U.K.

This news comes to us from La Marzocco, in Italy:

La Marzocco is pleased to announce the opening of a branch office in London, U.K.  The new branch aims to provide sales support and training to the growing specialty coffee community in the U.K. and Ireland.

 

La Marzocco U.K., Ltd, to be headquartered at 14C Shepherdess Walk, London, will open its doors for business on Wednesday, October 24th.

Our 1st Roaster’s Showcase with Caffe Ladro

Today was the official launch of our Roaster’s Showcase program.  This program is designed to give roasting companies an opportunity to showcase their coffee however they choose, away from confines of the typical coffee bar.

Our first showcasing company was Caffe Ladro.  Although Ladro’s coffee bars have been serving Seattle since the early 90s, they only recently began sourcing and roasting their own coffee.  In recent months, Ladro has taken strides to improve the quality of their coffee, and as a company exploring new things in coffee, they were the perfect fit for launching the Roaster’s Showcase.

Baristas from Ladro shared two coffees with us. First, an El Salvador called Natamaya, which was brewed via French press, and paired with a 65% chocolate.  The intention of the pairing was to highlight the sweet and round characteristics of the El Salvador.

Meanwhile, another barista was brewing some of Ladro’s new Kenya Gaturiri.  This coffee was brewed via chemex, then poured through a wine aerator, and served in a wine glass.  The aeration and serving vessel were chosen to highlight the crisp acidity of the Gaturiri.

These two coffees, back to back, made for an exciting experience that all very much enjoyed.  Thank you to Ladro for coming to La Marzocco and sharing this experience.  It was an excellent way to kick of the showcase program.

Next week, our presenters will be Seattle’s Kuma Coffee; again, the showcase will start at 10 AM.

Introducing “Roaster’s Showcase”

As part of our La Marzocco Learning Lab programming, today we introduce “Roaster’s Showcase”.  Roaster’s Showcase is an opportunity for you, coffee roasting companies, to come into the LM Lab, away from the usual confines of your traditional coffee bar, and show off your coffee.  For some, this could be a simple opportunity to cup your newest coffees; for others it could be a forum for you to host taste pairings, signature beverage flights, or an exploration of coffees paired with particular brew methods.  The space is open to you to express your creativity; the sky is the limit.

Roaster’s Showcase kicks off Friday, October 5th at 10am.  Our first guest  is Caffe Ladro; come by the La Marzocco Learning Lab to participate, learn, and show your support during this kick-off event.  As always, everyone is welcome to attend.  We are very excited about what Ladro is planning to present, but you’ll have to come to the LM Lab Friday to experience it for yourself.

Going forward, Roaster’s Showcase will take place on Friday mornings, and will be free and open to the public.
